US President Joe Biden said - on Saturday - that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin "cannot stay in power", and warned the Russians against advancing an inch inside the territory of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

This came in a speech in the Polish capital (Warsaw) in which he addressed the conflict in Ukraine.

US President Joe Biden reiterated that the United States did not want to enter into a conflict with the Russian forces that invaded Ukraine, but warned the Russians, "Don't even think of advancing an inch into NATO territory."

"There is no doubt that this war has become a strategic failure for Russia," he added in a speech from the Royal Castle in Warsaw.

Addressing the Russian people, he said, "I refuse to believe that you accept the killing of innocent children and grandparents, or that you accept Russian bombing of hospitals, schools and maternity hospitals."

great fight

He described Ukraine's resistance in the face of Russian forces as part of a "great battle for freedom," calling on the world to prepare for a "long battle."

Biden said Russia had "stifled democracy and sought to do so elsewhere," and told the Ukrainians, "We are on your side. Point in the line."

He concluded his speech by saying, "We will have a different future, a brighter future rooted in democracy, principle, hope and light."

"For God's sake, this man can't stay in power," he added.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden held talks with Ukrainian Foreign and Defense Ministers Dmytro Kuleba and Oleksiy Reznikov in Warsaw on Saturday.

He described Russian President Vladimir Putin as a "butcher" in a meeting with refugees who fled the war in Ukraine for the Polish capital.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that his country had received additional security pledges from the United States on the development of defense cooperation, while Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov expressed "cautious optimism" after the meeting with Biden.
