Four far-right sympathizers were sentenced this Friday evening to sentences ranging from two years in prison suspended to eight years in prison for having savagely attacked two young men on May 7, 2017, the evening of the election of Emmanuel Macron , in Nantes, at the Du Chaffault tramway station, Chantenay district.
The defendants, at the time sympathizers of the GUD, a far-right student union, are on trial for having attacked Erwan David, 18 at the time of the events, and Steven Dardenne, 16, with kicks, iron bars and glass bottle.
The two victims, encountered by chance as they were returning home by bicycle, had been confused by the attackers with anti-fascist activists.
Erwan David, who had been prescribed a year of total incapacity for work (ITT), kept the consequences.
The fifth defendant died
The four alleged attackers said at the hearing that they had cut off all ties with any political organization.
Convicted of violence resulting in permanent disability, in a meeting, with a weapon and premeditation, Joyce B., 32, was sentenced to eight years in prison, while François-Mamès C., 23, was sentenced to six years in prison.
"My client assumes this verdict, he expected a conviction," said the latter's lawyer, Me Loïc Cabioch, after the hearing.
The Advocate General had requested sentences ranging from 2 to 10 years in prison.
A fifth defendant, Tanguy Martin, 20 years old at the time of the events, died accidentally during the procedure.
