• Divergences A deputy from Podemos goes to the Mixed Group due to her "drift" and the party breaks up in the Canary Islands

  • Foreign policy Podemos is dissatisfied with the appearance of Albares and redoubles the pressure for the Sahara: "These are substantive differences"

The abrupt departure of a deputy from United We Can to

the Mixed Group

has once again revealed the tensions and divisions that are unleashed within the

purple

parliamentary group in Congress.

Meri Pita

left yesterday with a resounding slam of the formation discipline and through a very critical letter accused her now former party and those responsible in the Lower House of plunging the political force into an "organic drift" due to "their individualities, their miseries, their manipulations, their sectarianism, their cowardice and, increasingly, their biographical projects much more than political».

Various sources consulted reveal the main causes for a discontent that is also beginning to spread within the Podemos organization itself.

On the one hand, and as is reflected very incisively in the letter from the deputy for

Las Palmas

, the discomfort with the internal management with which Pablo Echenique is leading the parliamentary group with an iron hand and without debate, as well as the "capability » against the PSOE of many government policies.

And, on the other hand, the clashes caused in the last year and the increasingly complicated coexistence of the people who are closest to Yolanda Díaz and who are stunned at the fact that she was torpedoed by the Podemos leadership, headed by Ione Belarra and Irene Montero, in collusion with Pablo Iglesias.

The most obvious fact of all this occurred during the very complicated days that were experienced in United We Can when the bitter internal confrontation took place over the shipment of weapons to Ukraine, where hostilities came to the fore and where the alignment of the

common

of Ada Colau with the vice president, as well as that of Alberto Garzón, who has once again regained harmony with the Minister of Labor.

But before that episode the differences of criteria and about the strategy had already been manifesting themselves within the

purple

organization for some time .

A few weeks before this controversy, the general secretary of the United We Can parliamentary group in Congress,

Txema Guijarro

, resigned as part of the Executive of Ione Belarra in disagreement because he saw that the party's actions were not going in line with Yolanda Díaz .

They were a few moments of hangover due to the labor reform -approved in extremis due to an error by the PP-, about which Podemos was profiled in many difficult moments for Díaz, when she was being criticized by her independence partners.

In the midst of all this situation that makes the parliamentary group rarefied, the outbreak of Pita's march took place yesterday to join the Mixed Group.

Although it is true that in her case there is also a "very strong territorial component" that explains her decision, the deputy's departure from Las Palmas led to the question that ran through the conversations in Podemos yesterday was whether it is an isolated event or whether there will be others.

Meri Pita denounces the "drift" of Podemos and its "sectarianism"

Because Pita hasn't gone alone.

With her, 11 other public officials from the Canary Islands have also left Podemos.

Most of them are councilors - one is the deputy mayor of Las Palmas,

Javier Doreste

- but there are also up to three councilors from councils.

In other words, there has been a fracture within the organization, although

Podemos Canarias

has strictly minimized its scope.

Some sources point out that the meaning of this movement by Pita would be the promotion of a new political party in the Canary Islands that rivals Podemos and that, when the time comes, could offer Díaz as its landing platform in the archipelago if the confrontation with Belarra and Montero went to more.

The vice president may have other offers if Alberto Rodríguez, who lost his status as a deputy due to a conviction and then tore up the Podemos card, also decides to found another formation.

From the Canary Islands, Podemos sources not only support the hypothesis of Pita's new party, they also identify it with a newly created one called

Reunir

.

It was officially registered in the

Ministry of the Interior

by

Carmen Valido Pérez

, a person very close to Pita, on February 23.

A collaborator of yours has a party already created and can offer it to Díaz

In his farewell letter, Pita's criticisms are devastating to his former party and to Echenique.

"Podemos is not currently a democratic or much less a multinational organization," he says, and denounces the "infinite miseries, the attacks in search of the internal enemy and the pathetic elbows for appearing in who knows what starting grid, neglecting inexcusably any coherence" with the public and with the program.

He criticizes that Podemos dedicates itself to "covering the shame of surrender" in numerous policies of the coalition government - cites health, pensions, housing, gag law, the renewal of the Constitutional Court, the

Democratic Memory

, "the government's shameful immigration policy, the ignominious position of the Government on the Sahara»-.

"Everything", he emphasizes, "is reduced to looking the other way by abandoning our electoral commitments".

In Podemos they were little surprised yesterday and demanded that the deputy act be delivered now.

Because it is not theirs, they say, but of United We Can.

Otherwise, they will consider her a "turncoat."
