In a yellow room in central Gothenburg, at two o'clock on Friday, three people wrote on a piece of paper.

The paper is a declaration of intent between the City of Gothenburg, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service Region West and the Greater Gothenburg Police Area, to start using the American method GVI (see fact box below) to deal with the aggravated violence in Gothenburg.

- It will help us to intensify the cooperation between the city of Gothenburg, the police and the probation service, says Lovisa Nygren, Head of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, Frivården Göteborg.

Offers a resort

The method originates from the USA, and has previously been tested in Malmö under the working name Stop shooting.

It basically means that various actors cooperate and try to reach the most criminal individuals in society, and try to get it to refrain from committing crime.

- Thanks to our collaboration, we will get a clear picture of which individuals we can call to a meeting.

Many of these do not want this, they do not want to be killed.

And we now offer a way out of this miserable life, says Erik Nord, head of the Greater Gothenburg police area.
