The workers in Kavat's factory in Bosnia can not live on their wages and employees testify that they do not dare to speak freely for fear of reprisals.

LO's chairman Susanna Gideonsson has held several assignments internationally, including in Bosnia.

When she takes note of the conditions for Kavat's employees in Bosnia, she says that she recognizes patterns from her union work abroad.

She also reacts to net salaries: around SEK 3,000 a month, including overtime.

- With the salaries that are reported here, you can say that no, it is not possible to live on such a salary, says Susanna Gideonsson.

Kavat defends itself by saying that the workers also receive compensation for a hot meal a day, and for transport by bus to and from work.

Name collection at the factory

Assignment review has also revealed how Bosnian employees lack union rights.

After the Assignment review visit to Kavat in Bosnia, a collection of names was sent around the factory, which according to the company took place on the initiative of the staff.

It says, among other things:

“We want to confirm that we are satisfied, that we receive regular salaries and that we have been paid for overtime.

(…) We want to say that we do not need a trade union because we have enormous mistrust of it. "

- We gathered all our workers and there are 133 people who did not want to be members, says Smail Sabic, director of the factory in Bosnia.

Kavat wants to collaborate with Swedish players

In the collection of names, those who signed express that they have full support for the director and the management.

Susanna Gideonsson says that she has encountered similar lists when other companies abroad have received criticism.

- All companies we come across say like this, that it is on their own initiative.

But you are in such an incredible position of dependence on the employer, so you have no choice.

What would you like to say to companies that say it is very difficult for us, we want to do the right thing for ourselves abroad but the structures do not allow it?

- I have never been to such a company, to be honest.

Now I have still worked internationally for quite a few years.

The companies that want to do right by themselves, they do right by themselves, there is no obstacle.

Following the disclosure of the Assignment review, Kavat announces that the company wants to collaborate with Swedish actors for trade union issues and start work environment work at the factory.

They say that together with the Union they will go to Bosnia in the spring and ensure that the workers receive wages on which they can live.
