Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the authorities have been belittled with questions about shelters.

Many are worried.

The most common question is precisely: where is my nearest shelter?

The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, MSB, invites you to visit the shelter map available on the agency's website.

But there are not shelters in all properties.

In the house where David Segovia is nothing.

The nearest is on the other side of the street.

The question is whether there is room for him there.

- I do not know.

That is the problem, says David Segovia.

Get new shelters despite population growth

The vast majority of Sweden's 64,000 shelters were built during the Cold War.

The property owner must be able to prepare the shelter in 48 hours.

Since 2002, not many new shelters have been built at all, despite the fact that Sweden's population has increased by more than 1.5 million people.

There are entire newly built residential areas where there are not shelters for everyone.

- Then you should think about how you can get out of that area if you are exposed to the horrors of war, says Anders Johannesson, head of the unit for population protection at MSB.
