Inaugurating the Fifth UAE Antimicrobial Conference, which kicked off today at Le Meridien Airport Hotel, Al Rand said that the World Health Organization has announced that antimicrobial resistance is one of the ten major global threats to public health facing humanity.

Rand explained that the Ministry of Health and Community Protection has developed a national plan based on scientific foundations to reduce antimicrobial resistance by increasing awareness and understanding the phenomenon of antimicrobial resistance, strengthening surveillance and research, reducing infection rates, optimizing the use of antimicrobial drugs, and ensuring the sustainability of Investing in the fight against antimicrobial resistance, indicating that the national plan is based on the concept of one health based on the fact that human health is linked to animal health, which requires the concerted efforts of the health sectors, including doctors, veterinarians, environmental scientists, public health and other disciplines, to achieve better health.
