During his speech in the Swedish Parliament, Volodymyr thanked Zelenskyj for Sweden's support.

Last week, the president also addressed a special thank you to the Swedish Port Workers' Union for the decision to notify a blockade against ships with connections to Russia.

The blockade is expected to take effect on Monday next week.

The issue itself came to the fore when an oil tanker from Russia called at the port of Gävle on 12 March.

SVT Nyheter was then able to reveal that there was just over 40,000 tonnes of aviation fuel on board, which was to proceed to Arlanda.

After the decision on the blockade, another ship came from a port outside St. Petersburg and unloaded Russian liquefied natural gas in Nynäshamn south of Stockholm.

The gas was to be delivered to Swedish customers.

Want to see immediate stop

The industry and employers' organization Swedish ports, like the government, want to see a joint EU decision.

Minister of Infrastructure Tomas Eneroth (S) said a week ago that the issue is being discussed within the Union.

But now the dock workers are receiving support from several opposition parties, who want the government to go before and before a national stop.

- We think it should be done immediately.

Every day that we buy oil and gas from Russia is a day that the war can continue in Ukraine, says spokesman Per Bolund (MP).

Ulla Andersson (V) does not think that Sweden can let deliveries continue.

- This is a way to put pressure on the EU and mark.

We must not, on the one hand, help Ukraine and, on the other hand, ensure that Putin receives money.

The Christian Democrats want the EU to introduce a total blockade of shipping, but do not think that a joint decision should be awaited.

- We think that Sweden should go ahead and close our ports to Russian ships, says Magnus Jacobsson, traffic policy spokesperson for KD.

"Then we have broken the agreement"

Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) says that a national decision can have a negative effect.

- If we take the lead with some sanctions, it may feel like we do not need to agree.

Then we have broken the agreement.

Neither the Center Party, the Sweden Democrats nor the Moderates think that Sweden should introduce a blockade on its own.

- We will push so that other countries dare to take the step, but we will do it together in the EU.

There is an intrinsic value in the unity between the EU countries, says Ulf Kristersson (M).

- If such a decision is delayed, Sweden should consider other measures, such as closing the ports, confiscating ships and deporting staff to their home countries, says Aron Emilsson, foreign policy spokesman for SD.
