The reduction came after the Moderates, Christian Democrats and Sweden Democrats agreed on a joint budget in November.

Lorentz Tovatt, climate policy spokesman for the MP, writes in a reservation against the proposal that the basic principle that the polluter should pay permeates all Swedish environmental legislation.

“The proposed reduction of 50 öre per liter therefore means that Sweden's emissions will increase.

If Sweden is to honor the emissions targets adopted by the Riksdag, a reduced price for emissions is not the right way to go. ”

The rest of the opposition wants to lower the tax even more, up to SEK 5.

The government has presented a proposal that reduces the price by SEK 1.30 further, which according to the Ministry of Finance corresponds to the EU minimum level, but allows for a larger reduction if it is practically possible.
