Talks are currently underway on how the cooperation between Umeå municipality, non-profit organizations and individuals should be organized.
There are no established cooperation agreements ready.
Helén Andersson, coordinator at the municipality, hopes that an agreement can be ready within a few weeks.
- We are working to find a solution similar to the one we had during the refugee crisis in 2015 when we had a coordination agreement with the Red Cross.
We saw then, just as now, that there is a huge commitment among the population that we can not guide ourselves.
We need support and help from the voluntary organizations, says Andersson.
"Always in need of a family home"
For individuals who want to help, it can be confusing to know where to turn.
When is it relevant to contact you at the municipality?
- When it comes to gifts and offers of housing, we refer right now to larger voluntary organizations.
Then the municipality always needs a family home, and then you contact the social services.
Should you have larger apartments that you can imagine renting out in the longer term, we also always need to have contact with landlords.
But then it applies to apartments, says Helén Andersson.
