• Semitan fares will increase by an average of 1.56% from July 1.

  • Free admission on Saturday and Sunday is not in question.

  • At the same time, Nantes Métropole will strengthen certain lines and lighten others, in particular the tramway.

Users of the Semitan network may find it difficult to understand.

Less than a year after having set up free public transport on weekends so that they are more attractive, Nantes Métropole will vote this Thursday to increase the prices of buses, trams and Navibus.

A moderate increase (on average 1.56%) but which concerns all transport tickets with the exception of the single ticket (1.70 euro).

From July 1, the classic subscription (unlimited formula) will thus increase from 492.80 to 500 euros, the formula -26 years old will increase from 224 to 227 euros, the classic monthly ticket from 55.20 to 57 euros, the ticket monthly -26 years from 32.80 to 34 euros, the ticket book from 15.60 to 16 euros, the trip in tailor-made formula from 1.51 to 1.52 euro.

So why this price increase?

The reason is simple: the development of public transport is very expensive for the community and free weekends have deprived it of valuable revenue.

Raising the tariffs therefore means that it is not the taxpayers (via their taxes) who bear the additional cost alone.

And too bad if the message sent to the public (the prices are lowered one year, they are increased the next) is not very coherent.

Reinforced lines, others degraded

“This increase is lower than inflation, defends Bertrand Affilé (PS), vice-president of Nantes Métropole.

It represents an additional three to seven euros per year.

It makes it possible not to call into question the balance of the public service delegation.

There had been no increase in 2020 and 2021.”

From September 1, reinforcements or extensions of certain TAN lines are planned, in particular for the C20 at Gare Maritime, the service to Carquefou, the service to Rezé by the L38, the L80 or the L47.

Conversely, given the search for savings and the decline in attendance observed over the past two years, a reduction in frequency is announced on the tram lines at off-peak hours, whether on "blue days" (weekdays) or “green days” (school holidays).

The transit time of a tram will be extended by one minute on average.

The C2 and C3 chronobuses will also be affected during peak hours.
