Guilly d'Herbemont (1888-1980) is the inventor of the white cane used by people with blindness.

In 1930, while she is helping a group of blind people to cross a Parisian boulevard, a car appears and nearly knocks everyone down.

This incident gives him an idea: to provide the blind with a distinctive sign that facilitates their movement.

The following year took place the official ceremony for the presentation of the first 150 white canes, financed by Mademoiselle d'Herbemont herself.

There are two approved regulatory models: a cane for women, another for men.

Soon, the white cane is spreading abroad.

Guilly d'Herbemont, she will receive the Legion of Honor in 1947.
