Urban violence erupted overnight from Saturday to Sunday in the Crozet district of Scionzier (Haute-Savoie).

Dispatched to the scene, the gendarmes were targeted by around fifteen people, reports France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.

They were targeted by “fire from various projectiles, including a cobblestone which broke the side window of a gendarmerie vehicle and grazed the head of a gendarme,” the prosecution said in a press release.

The police tried to secure the intervention of the firefighters.

Equipment and construction machinery as well as garbage cans had been set on fire.

A suspect remanded in custody

A young man was arrested on the spot and then placed in police custody before being presented to an investigating judge.

Unknown to justice, this young adult was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention.

He faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros.

A judicial inquiry has been opened.
