The Axios website, quoting American and Israeli sources, reported that the White House has tightened its position over the past few days regarding removing the Iranian Revolutionary Guard from the terrorist list.

The website indicated that the White House demanded that Iran make a public commitment to reduce the escalation in the region in exchange for removing the name of the Revolutionary Guards from the list of terrorism.

The website quoted two American sources as saying that the Iranians refused to make a public commitment, and suggested presenting a special message to the United States.

US sources told Axios that the White House became increasingly concerned over time about the domestic political repercussions of an agreement with Iran regarding the Revolutionary Guards, and that its enthusiasm for the idea declined.

Recent negotiations in Vienna came close to restoring the 2015 nuclear deal, but Iran's demand that President Joe Biden reverse former President Donald Trump's decision to designate the Revolutionary Guards a foreign terrorist organization is one of the last remaining sticking points.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said that Iran had offered some initiatives to the United States through the European Union coordinator regarding the remaining issues, and stressed that the responsibility now rests with the American side to show goodwill.

But the site quoted what it described as a "senior official" in the US State Department that the United States is waiting for an Iranian response within days.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said that during the nuclear talks in Vienna, Iran demanded that the United States remove the Revolutionary Guards from the blacklist of foreign terrorist organizations as a condition for reaching a nuclear agreement.

And the Axios website stated - in a previous report - that among the possibilities being discussed is that Washington retains the right to reclassify the Revolutionary Guards if it finds that Iran has not fulfilled its pledge to stop the escalation in the region.
