The new hockey and event arena will be built next to the current ice rink in the Bökensved area in Västervik.

The arena will be used for ice sports, concerts and other events.

The current ice rink was built in 1984, and according to the municipality has "served its purpose well".

- Now it's time to take the next step with a new combined arena for both ice hockey, other ice sports such as figure skating, events and fairs in Västervik, says Dan Nilsson, chairman of the municipal board (S).

15 million per year

The new arena will include several kiosks, bars, a restaurant and conference facilities.

The arena will be able to take in 3,000 spectators and will be 6,800 square meters in size.

The arena will be owned by Tjustfastigheter and the municipality will then pay a rent of just over SEK 15 million per year.

The proposal will be decided by the municipal board by 28 March and then by the municipal council on 25 April.

If the municipal board in Västervik says yes to the proposal, the arena can begin to be built in 2022 and be ready in 2024 or 2025.
