So far, two thirds of the 32 members who participated have chosen to pay.

And I think that everyone who can will also want to pay, says Ilko Corkovic, Social Democratic municipal councilor in Borgholm.

He says that the initiative for the politicians' collection is a way for the politicians to show that they want to be involved and help raise money for the refugees from Ukraine who recently came to Borgholm.

"A nice gesture"

SEK 350 per person and meeting, the members of the City Council in Borgholm are entitled to.

The total sum can thus reach just over SEK 11,000.

- It will not be that much money, but we see it as a nice gesture.

And the money that is collected, we will buy gift cards for from our center association, he says.

The gift cards will then be given to the refugees who recently came to Kapelludden in Borgholm.

Hope for spread

Now the politicians in Borgholm hope that their initiative will spread to other politicians in the country.

- I am convinced that many will follow our example, says Ilko Corkovic.
