Senegal: the army makes a first assessment of its operation in Casamance

In Senegal, in Casamance, the army ensures that the situation is under control on the border with Guinea Bissau after two weeks of operations against the positions of MFDC fighters (February 9, 2021).

One soldier has been killed and eight others have been slightly injured since the start of the ongoing military operation in Casamance, in the south of the country.

This is the first assessment published by the staff in Dakar.

This operation launched ten days ago, on March 13, 2022, aims, according to the army, to dismantle the MFDC bases of the Salif Sadio faction, near the border with Gambia.

On the photos transmitted by the staff, we find deserted camps, seized weapons, in particular M16 assault rifles, ammunition, and vehicles.

In its press release, the Dirpa affirms that eight MFDC bases have been destroyed or are under control in the North Sindian area: Bakingaye, Katama, Katinoro and Karounor.

No indication for the time being on the fate of rebel leader Salif Sadio.

On the humanitarian level, the Gambian crisis management agency reports

more than 6,000 internally displaced persons or refugees

who fled the violence in southern Gambia.
