At the special NATO summit, military rearmament will be discussed and the promise of Article 5 - that an attack on a member state is an attack on everyone - will be confirmed, according to SVT's European correspondent David Boati.

- It is clear that these words have greater weight when the leader of the world's largest military power is in place, says Boati in Aktuellt.

Biden's agenda also includes an EU summit.

It is unique that an American president can sit in the room when the 27 EU leaders meet, according to David Boati.

The G7 group, which consists of the world's seven largest industrialized countries, will also hold a meeting on Thursday.

Ensure action plan

Biden's purpose with all meetings is to show a united front against Russia and prove that the US, EU and NATO will continue to stand by Ukraine's even if it is a long and costly war, says SVT's US correspondent Stefan Åsberg.

Biden also wants to ensure that there is an action plan for the situation that arises if Russia were to use chemical warfare against Ukraine, according to Åsberg.

Furthermore, information is expected on sanctions against Russian private individuals and politicians.

"A lot is at stake"

On Friday, Biden will visit Poland.

Relations between the countries have been tense since the United States stopped Poland's attempts to send fighter jets to Ukraine.

Now Poland also wants to see a peacekeeping force in Ukraine, which will be a new challenge for the White House, according to Stefan Åsberg.

- It is a situation where a lot is at stake, says Stefan Åsberg.
