President Moon Jae-in nominated Lee Chang-yong, director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Asia and Pacific affairs, as the new Bank of Korea governor candidate today (23rd).

Park Soo-hyun, senior presidential secretary for public communication at the Blue House, announced this fact at a briefing today.

Park said, "This candidate is an economics and financial expert who has worked as a professor of economics at Seoul National University, vice chairman of the Financial Services Commission, and chief economist at the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He said, "I have a lot of trust around me."

He added, "Based on our rich knowledge and experience in economy, finance and finance, as well as global network and sense, we expect that we will contribute to the stabilization of prices and financial markets through efficient and stable monetary and credit policies that respond to domestic and international economic and financial conditions." emphasized.

The current Bank of Korea Governor Lee Ju-yeol, who has spearheaded Korea's monetary and credit policy for the past eight years, will retire at the end of this month.

In this regard, a high-ranking Blue House official met with reporters and told reporters about the nomination for the BOK governor, "In order to minimize the gap in the governorship, we have heard the opinions of the elected and announced the nominee."

Regarding this, President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol said today that President Moon Jae-in has nominated Lee Chang-yong, director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Asia and Pacific affairs, as a candidate for the new governor of the Bank of Korea.

On the surface, the president-elect Yoon and the Blue House stated that they had never consulted in advance regarding the appointment of the new BOK president, but there is an air of positive view from the president-elect Yoon's side regarding candidate Lee Chang-yong itself.

An official from Yoon-elect's side said on the phone, "I think this candidate is a good person, but procedurally, he is a member of the Blue House and has never been recommended by the elected party."
