President Moon Jae-in has nominated Lee Chang-yong, director of the International Monetary Fund, as the new Bank of Korea governor candidate.
The Blue House said that it had collected the opinions of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol and made the appointment, but the president-elect refuted it head-on, saying that it had never discussed or recommended personnel affairs with the Blue House.

This candidate, who will be appointed after a personnel hearing at the National Assembly, is from Nonsan, Chungcheongnam-do, and graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in economics. He has served as Vice-Chairman of the Financial Services Commission.
The Blue House said, "In order to minimize the vacancy in the position of the BOK governor, we announced the nominee after hearing the opinions of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol."
At a working-level consultation for a meeting between the president and the elected president, the opinion of the elected president was heard, and personnel appointments were made accordingly.
However, less than an hour after the Blue House announcement, the elected side denied that there was no consultation or recommendation.
When Jang Je-won, the elected chief of staff, asked about Lee Cheol-hee, the chief of staff for political affairs, he simply replied "a good person".

When a high-ranking official at the Blue House asked the president-elect's intentions for the two candidates at the time, he countered that he clearly answered 'Lee Chang-yong', and the president-elect once again said, "The president-elect hasn't even finished the idea of hiring an economist, what do you recommend?" President-elect Yoon responded to the announcement by saying, "I laughed out loud."
The appointment of the governor of the Bank of Korea, one of the obstacles to the meeting between the president and the elected president, was made, but the conflict is rather amplified as the truth battles over the process have taken place.
