North Korea's recent launch of multiple rocket launchers was not in violation of the 9/19 inter-Korean military agreement, the Ministry of National Defense said.
This is a rebuttal of President-elect Yun Seok-yeol's claim that North Korea's launch of multiple rocket launchers was a violation of the agreement.
Defense Minister Seo Wook answered, "No," to a question about whether the North Korean multiple rocket launchers are breaking the 9/19 military agreement by Min Hong-cheol, who is the chairman of the National Defense Committee, at a plenary meeting of the National Assembly's National Assembly on the 22nd.
In addition, after saying that the launch point was "the West Sea side", he explained, "Is it within the scope of the 9/19 military agreement?" He said, "No. It is much norther than that," and explained that the launch was carried out north of the maritime buffer zone.
Minister Seo replied, "I didn't see the breaking news, but it is not an area where we decided to implement the agreement."
The Ministry of National Defense also stated that "North Korean fire in the area north of the maritime buffer zone is not included in the 9/19 military agreement."
Earlier, on the 20th, North Korea fired four multiple rocket launchers (the North Korean name for multiple rocket launchers) from the Sukcheon area in Pyeongnam into the West Sea.
In response to this, President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol stipulated, "Isn't it a violation of the 9/19 (inter-Korean military agreement). It is a clear violation" at the first secretariat meeting held at the office of the Presidential Transition Committee in Tongui-dong this morning.
The military is analyzing the launch of multiple rocket launchers as part of the North Korean military's winter training.
