In a few months, the former Prime Minister had lost more than twenty kilos and contracted a serious illness.

Transferred urgently to a clinic in Bamako, the authorities had never authorized his medical evacuation, despite successive recommendations.

A post-mortem persecution

 ", these are the words of a family member who explains to RFI that he was only able to access

the body of Soumeylou Boubeye Maïga

this Tuesday afternoon, more than 24 hours. after his death.

And on what condition, since the Malian authorities demanded that the family of the former Prime Minister undertake not to perform an autopsy on the body.  

At the beginning, they even told us that they were going to do an autopsy themselves, that they were going to choose the doctor,

 ” explains a family member.

But the brothers and sisters of Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga, his wife, his children, do not have confidence.

Above all, they fear for the integrity of the remains.

We already have the conclusions of the doctors who followed him and those of the National Health Council, which are clear

,” explains a family member.

 We didn't want them to desecrate the body

."  

After consultation, the family of Soumeylou Boubeye Maïga finally agrees to sign the document sent by the authorities.

We were shocked but, for religious reasons, we also wanted to be able to organize the burial quickly.

After 24 hours of sordid negotiations, the family can finally access the body of Soumeylou Boubeye Maïga.  

His funeral is scheduled for Thursday afternoon in the family home in the river district, the body of the former Prime Minister will then be buried in the Bamako cemetery of Niarela.
