On the 22nd local time, German Federal President Steinmeier and his wife Budenbender were confirmed to be infected with the new crown virus.
According to a spokesman for the President's Office, Steinmeier and Budenbender both tested positive for the rapid test and nucleic acid test results that day, and the two immediately entered a state of home isolation.
"Their symptoms are currently mild," the spokesman said. Close contacts of the two have also been notified.
According to the Federal President's Office, Steinmeier received the third booster dose of the vaccine on November 12, 2021.
Steinmeier, 66, and Budenbender, 60, are considered high-risk groups: Steinmeier donated a kidney to his wife in 2010.
