The AfD failed before the Federal Constitutional Court with a lawsuit to elect the Vice Presidents of the Bundestag.

With a judgment announced on Tuesday, the judges in Karlsruhe dismissed an action for organs by AfD MP Fabian Jacobi.

According to this, the Bundestag may restrict the right to nominate vice-presidents to the parliamentary groups.

Jacobi and originally also the AfD wanted to ensure that in the second ballot at the latest, individual MPs also have the right to propose the deputy posts.

The Federal Constitutional Court has now decided that the Bundestag could restrict this right of proposal to the parliamentary groups.

In July 2021, the Federal Constitutional Court rejected corresponding urgent applications from the AfD parliamentary group as inadmissible and insufficiently justified.

The background to the procedure is the failure of the AfD candidates in the distribution of the deputy posts in the Bundestag in the past legislative period.
