Russia: The decision to ban “Meta” can be reversed if violations are corrected

Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for Information, Technology and Communication Policy, Anton Gorelkin, announced his country's intention to reverse the decision to ban Meta in Russia if the company corrects the violations committed against it.

He explained that "the court's ruling banning Meta's operations in Russia, including its social networks on Facebook and Instagram, can be rescinded if the company officially acknowledges the violations and corrects them, and in return, Meta will have to lift the ban on the accounts of Russian media and public figures and return to commitment to the principle of impartiality."

Earlier today, the Russian judiciary banned the Facebook and Instagram applications in Russia due to their extremist activities, and this came after the Tverskoy Court in Moscow announced the implementation of the ruling against the two applications belonging to the American company Meta immediately.

Meta is the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, and the messaging application WhatsApp, which is also owned by the company, is not affected by this measure because the court decided that it was not used as a means of disseminating information to the public.
