• A northern entrepreneur starts manufacturing electric scooters made in France.

  • The machine, called Plume, is designed to last over time and to be easily repaired.

  • The vehicle can carry 120 kg over 45 or 70 km at a constant speed without loss of power.

Plume, the scooter that sends heavy.

While fuel prices have skyrocketed, it has never been more relevant to think about other means of getting around than the car.

This is all the more true in large cities where micro-mobility is developing almost as fast as the price of a barrel rises.

In this niche, we will have to rely on a new player, French moreover: Plume.

Based in Saint-André, near Lille, this company has developed a model of electric scooter that ticks all the boxes of eco-responsible mobility.

Plume's boss, Fabrice Furlan, worked for 20 years at Decathlon, mainly in the field of carbon-free mobility.

Suffice to say that he masters the field and knows the uses and expectations of users of bicycles and other scooters.

And it is on this last means of transport that he decided to start, but not with the idea of doing like everyone else.

“Competition is very present but France is also one of the biggest markets in this field.

It is all the more absurd to see that the products offered today for eco-responsible mobility come from the other side of the world,” notes the entrepreneur.

80% made in Nord-pas-de-Calais, 100% made in France

As a result, Plume has largely favored the short circuit.

An approach that allows it to display the punctilious label "Guaranteed French origin".

The plastic parts are molded in Famars, in the North, the electronics come from Verquin, in the Pas-de-Calais, the mechanical structures and the assembly of the machine are made in Roubaix.

“Only the batteries arrive from our supplier Gouach, in Bordeaux.

It's also a choice because this company offers 100% repairable and durable batteries,” says Fabrice Furlan.

Repairable and durable, this is also the case with the scooter itself.

Already, the steel frame is guaranteed for 5 years.

Beyond that, the entire vehicle has been designed to withstand time and, in the event of a problem, to be able to be repaired.

“All the parts are available and, most of the time, customers can even carry out the repairs themselves by following video tutorials”, assures the boss of Plume.

Its motor with a nominal power of 500 W, 1,000 W maximum, and its battery which swings from 48V allow this scooter to take a person of 120 kg to its maximum speed (25 km/h) on a small drop without toil.

"All the components are oversized, which also contributes to the durability of the vehicle," says the entrepreneur.

Of course, all of this comes at a cost.

Count between 1,099 and 1,399 euros depending on the autonomy chosen, 45 km or 70 km, while most competing models are placed below the bar of 1,000 euros.

But, for this price, the Plume has standard equipment that you don't see elsewhere: front and rear LEDs, a real headlight, indicators and a large digital screen.

"Offering a product of this quality, made in France in this price range, is a real challenge", recognizes Fabrice Furlan.
