Mikaelsgården has housed the City Mission's operations since 2007 and here those who are in social vulnerability have been offered help since then.

The current property, which is owned by the Church of Sweden, has such serious shortcomings that they cannot be remedied.

The church and Uppsala City Mission agree on this.

- Building a new house for the business would work, but it is not financially defensible, says Lars Åstrand who is the cathedral chaplain and deputy pastor in Uppsala.

Want to build new

However, the Church of Sweden has plans to build a new property on the site, but with different activities.

However, the City Mission claims that the Supreme Administrative Court a few years ago decided that only a replacement property for Mikaelsgården may be built because the park is considered a church site.

- I wish we could have talked about a temporary solution for the time it will take for the Church of Sweden to know if they can build in the park or not, says Margaretha Svensson Paras who is the City Mission's director in Uppsala.
