The summer of 2022 can be extra tough for health and care in Skellefteå municipality when businesses in the municipality are screaming for labor.

This year, we see a trend that fewer people have applied for care work.

- We have seen a lower influx of applicants than in previous years and we think it will be difficult here in Skellefteå.

This will be one of our most important and biggest challenges, says Camilla Lindström, HR manager at the social services office in Skellefteå municipality.

Can receive SEK 30,000 in compensation

There are more municipalities that have the same problem.

Previously, Umeå municipality has tried to attract nurses with bonuses and free accommodation.

Skellefteå municipality is now trying to secure the summer's staffing by offering employees in strained operations a bonus - if they choose to move the holiday.

Employees who move the entire holiday are offered SEK 30,000 extra, and those who move half the holiday are offered SEK 15,000.

Part-time workers can also receive extra holiday pay and substitutes are also offered bonuses.

- We hope that these measures will be enough to secure this summer's staffing, says Camilla Lindström.

Municipal positive but want to see clarity

The trade union Kommunal is positive to the offer but calls for clarity from employers on what applies to each employee.

- In general, we think that the bonus is good, but it is important that it becomes clear what applies to whom.

Our fear is that it may become unclear and that employees who are not entitled to bonuses move their holidays, and then do not receive a bonus, says Kommunal's section chairman Anki Pettersson.
