The former international midfielder had to resign at the beginning of February from his position as sporting director of Ajax Amsterdam after several colleagues testified that he had received many inappropriate messages, and even a "dick pic" (unsolicited penis photo ) on his part.
These women had questioned the "sexist" culture of the club, in the Dutch newspaper NRC, saying that the few who had tried to denounce the abuses had not been heard.
Marc Overmars has signed a four-year contract with Antwerp, current 3rd in the Belgian 1st division championship.
"We told Marc what our values were," said general manager Sven Jacques during the presentation press conference, according to the Belga agency.
"We are also a club that wants to give people a second chance," he said, acknowledging that he did not consult with female staff members before this recruitment.
"This will not happen again," promised Marc Overmars.
"I want to turn the page on Ajax and start a new chapter here, he said. My departure from Ajax was regrettable. I have to overcome this and move on, that's what I will do now".
His questioning in the Netherlands had aroused immense emotion.
Evoking his "shame", Marc Overmars had apologized and admitted having "exceeded the limits".
Overmars had won the Champions League as a player with Ajax Amsterdam in 1995, before moving to Arsenal and then to FC Barcelona.
