EU Defense Ministers held a meeting on Monday evening in which Ukrainian Foreign Minister Oleksiy Reznikov participated digitally.

On the way out of the meeting, Foreign Minister Ann Linde tells SVT Nyheter that they have now decided to set aside an additional SEK 5 billion - a doubling of previously allocated funds from the fund that replaces member countries that send weapons.

According to Ann Linde, Ukraine will be able to notice the addition immediately.

- Everyone understands that time is a decisive factor, that is why it has gone so fast so far.

Of the extra money contributed, SEK 4.5 billion is set aside for weapons, the rest will go to medical equipment.

"Doubt as blown away"

SVT's Europe correspondent David Boati says that the will to support Ukraine is clear.

- If at first there was a certain hesitation, some countries such as Sweden and Germany have not sent weapons to warring countries for a very long time, it is the one that has been blown away now.

It has only been a matter of time before additional money for weapons would be added, says David Boati.

- There have even been voices calling for the use of the whole EU peace facility of over five billion euros.

This means that all countries that want to can now send more weapons and receive compensation from this fund and it will probably go quickly.
