Yemen's Houthi rebels used drones to attack several targets in southern Saudi Arabia on Saturday, according to the Riyadh-led military coalition.

The official SPA news agency initially reported an attack on a plant belonging to the Saudi Arabian oil company Aramco in Jasan and on a desalination plant in Al-Shakeek, referring to the military coalition.

In later statements, the coalition said a power plant near Jazan had also been targeted by a drone.

The SPA released photos and a video showing firefighters fighting a fire.

A fourth target was a gas station in Khamis Mushait.

According to the coalition, the four drones were intercepted and destroyed after the attacks.

A ballistic missile fired in the direction of the city of Jazan was stopped.

Rocket and drone attacks by the Yemeni rebels are not uncommon in the region.

Yemen has been at war since 2015 between President Abd Rabbo Mansur Hadi's troops, backed by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other Arab states, and the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

According to the UN, around 380,000 people have already been killed in the conflict, and millions more have had to flee.

The United Nations classifies the situation in Yemen as the largest humanitarian catastrophe in the world.
