US Defense Secretary: Putin sent his forces to a chopper

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin considered that the hypersonic missiles that Russia says it used to destroy military targets in Ukraine “do not make a difference in the face of the resistance of the Ukrainian army,” and said that “Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his forces to a chopper,” and indicated that the Ukrainians are very effective. Thanks to the weapons provided to them by the United States such as anti-tank and air defense systems.

On Sunday, Russia announced, for the second day in a row, that it had used hypersonic missiles in Ukraine.

If confirmed, it would be the first known use in real combat conditions of this system, which was first tested in 2018.

With such weapons, Lloyd Austin said, Russia was trying to restore momentum in the war in which its army was involved.

"We have seen the Russians deliberately targeting cities and civilians in recent weeks because the attack has been disrupted," the US secretary added.

He stressed that the Russian forces are not effective in their movements on the ground, as they are basically crippled in the face of the Ukrainian fighters who are fighting valiantly and are still determined to defend their country.

Lloyd Austin warned Russia against the use of chemical or biological weapons in the conflict.

He said there would then be "a strong reaction not only from the United States but also from the international community."

Regarding the Russian accusations that Washington and Kiev are running laboratories aimed at producing internationally banned biological and chemical weapons in Ukraine, the US official considered that the Russians want to "convey an excuse to blame another party, on the Ukrainians, the United States and NATO, if they do something on the battlefield."

Austin refused to confirm the presence of mercenaries on the side of the Russian forces.

"We haven't seen any mercenaries on the battlefield as far as I know," he said in this regard.
