For weeks, Russia and Ukraine have met regularly for peace talks, but no further progress has yet been made.

Several world leaders have expressed distrust of the talks.

Among other things, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said earlier this week that the talks are just a game for the gallery, that Russia has pretended to negotiate with Ukraine.

But Ann Linde (S) does not agree.

- Our Ukrainian colleagues say that you notice that Russia is prepared to speak more than they were from the beginning, she says.

Ceasefire most important progress

At the same time as the talks have been going on this week, Russia has also continued to bomb civilians, which according to Linde is not unusual in a situation like this.

- Unfortunately, throughout history there have been terrible wars, where they continued with bombings against civilians, but then came to peace agreements.

What must first be achieved are humanitarian corridors and ceasefires, before a real peace agreement can be reached.

"Do not mind stopping the oil and gas"

Ann Linde (S) does not dare to hope for any breakthroughs in the negotiations in the near future, but at the same time believes that Russia is serious about the talks - because they are so pressured by international sanctions.

- It is obvious that the financial sanctions are biting.

- We absolutely think that sanctions should be continued and we do not mind stopping the oil and gas, she adds.

Awaiting EU decision on port blockade

Linde encourages the Swedish Port Workers' Union's initiative to stop Russian ships coming to Swedish ports, but the government will not currently make a national decision to stop the ships.

- We think it is very good that people are involved in the issue of supporting Ukraine, but from the government's side we do not want individual decisions but joint EU decisions.
