Zelensky calls on Switzerland to freeze funds of Russian wealthy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in front of thousands of anti-war protesters in the Swiss city of Bern, called on the Swiss government to freeze the accounts of all wealthy Russians in Swiss banks.

According to the translator of the word, Zelensky said: "This is also a battle against evil."

Zelensky was speaking live on video to thousands of Swiss who had gathered in the square in front of the Swiss parliament to denounce Russia's war on Ukraine.

Thunderous applause erupted when Zelensky called for the accounts of the Russian oligarchs to be banned.

Switzerland has largely implemented European sanctions, but other very wealthy Russians doing business in Switzerland are said to be close to Russian President Vladimir Putin and have not yet been sanctioned.

For his part, Swiss President Ignazio Cassis told his Ukrainian counterpart: "We are touched by the courage with which your people are fighting for freedom and peace. We admire how you defend the fundamental values of the free world, which are also our core values."
