Gordon Brown reveals how Putin received him in 2006

Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown revealed the details of his first meeting with current Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin in early 2006.

"The first time I met Vladimir Putin, in his gigantic Kremlin office in early 2006, an official directed me to a low sofa to sit on," Brown said.

He continued: "Putin sat at a high table, 5 feet 7 inches tall, and the message was clear from the start, he looked at me with contempt and I had no choice but to look at him," according to the Daily Mail.

He continued: "Putin brought from a box on his desk, a file of identification that included my date and place of birth, parents and current residence, and began to read them, and the Russian president was intent on putting me on the defensive, which suggests that he knows more about me than I knew myself."

He continued: "Putin has changed since the first years of his presidency, and at that time he told me that he would sell Russian oil and gas to the West only on his terms, and if we did not accept his terms, he would sell to the East."

"My experience with Putin and his methods left me in no doubt that he will continue the cruel pattern of threatening peoples and countries - the invasion of Georgia in 2008, the annexation of Crimea and the placement of Russian forces in the Donbass region in 2014, and now Ukraine," he continued.
