During an English Premier League (EPL) match, an environmentalist broke into the ground and tied his neck to a goal post.

Everton defeated Newcastle 1-0 in the EPL 20th round postponed match of the 2021-2022 season held at Goodison Park, Liverpool, England on the 17th local time.

According to foreign media such as British Sky Sports, an unexpected situation occurred during the match.

About four minutes into the second half, when both teams played 0-0, a man wearing a 'Just Stop Oil' t-shirt entered the arena and tied his neck with an orange cable tie to his post.

Local police and stadium security personnel grabbed the man and dragged him off the field, delaying the match for more than seven minutes.

Police said, "A man has been arrested for obstructing the match by tying himself to a goalpost. He is currently in custody."

The man is known as a supporter of 'Just Stop Oil', which opposes the British government's fossil fuel policy.

A side of 'Just Stop Oil' posted on SNS, "Today, a 21-year-old supporter named Lewis tied himself to a goal. "We have to act as if it's an emergency."

"The British government betrayed us by investing in new oil fields in the North Sea," he added.

A similar thing happened earlier in the match between Arsenal and Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in London on the 16th.

The man, a 'Just Stop Oil' supporter, came on the ground and tied his hands to his post when he was stopped and dragged outside.

In this regard, the group said, "I'm sorry to the spectators for disturbing the game, but if you don't act like this, no one will be interested in our story."

This is a 'news pick'.
