Change of position Morocco assures that Spain supports its proposal for autonomy of the Sahara
Newspaper library Mohamed VI offers 'self-determination' within Morocco for Western Sahara
The
Polisario Front
has lamented that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, "succumbs to pressure and blackmail" from Morocco by endorsing its autonomy plan for
Western Sahara
as a "toll" to resume the damaged political and diplomatic relations between the two countries .
The Polisario delegate in Spain,
Abdullah Arabi
, stated in an interview with Europa Press that the Spanish government has been "constantly trying to please Morocco" for years, playing with an "ambiguity" that, in his opinion, does not correspond to it as a "power administrator" of a territory pending decolonization.
For Arabi, the fact that Spain now recognizes the Moroccan autonomy plan as the most realistic option to solve the future of the former colony highlights the "hypocrisy" of the Government when it speaks of "defending international legality".
In this sense, he has pointed out that the
Rabat
plan "is an option, but it is not the solution", and has claimed the need to call a referendum that contemplates self-determination and not that Western Sahara remains under the designs of Morocco.
"The solution has to be based on the choice of the Saharawi people", stressed the delegate, before pointing out that Spain "has a specific political and legal responsibility".
Pronounce as he did this Friday, he has indicated, "greatly contradicts his responsibility."
