Catalan CIS Support for the independence of Catalonia falls to its historical minimum: the 'no' is already 15 points ahead of the 'yes'
Generalitat Puigdemont's contacts with Russia stress the Catalan Government
Never before since the
Generalitat
decided in 2014 to use its demoscopic entity to spur the still incipient
process
for the independence of
Catalonia
had it obtained so little social support.
Only 38% of Catalans support the conversion of their autonomy into their own State, according to the
Center for Opinion Studies
(CEO), whose latest barometer reflects the growing popular disenchantment with the separatist cause.
A year after the elections of 14-F, in which the independence movement revalidated its majority, exceeding 50% of the votes for the first time, the pro-independence mass seems to be turning against its leaders, who still do not show signs of knowing how to resurrect the órdago to the constitutional order when more than four years have passed since the illegal referendum of 1-O.
The lack of progress registered so far at the "negotiation table on the conflict", which has not met since September, seems to discourage the already very savvy pro-independence parishioner, who continues to attend the periodic and public brawls of his political representatives.
The latest skirmish between ERC and Junts on account of Carles Puigdemont's contacts with the
Kremlin
proves that only the need to stay in power explains why the two great pro-independence forces continue to share a government, after having broken up in the last legislature after the disqualification of Quim Torra and of having starred in other thunderous clashes in the present, such as the exclusion of Junts from the negotiating table after
President
Pere Aragonès refused to include members from outside the Government in the bilateral forum with the central Executive .
This disunity was even more tangible when the CUP refused to support the Government's
Budgets
and the ERC decided to rely on the
commons
to carry out the accounts, instead of accepting the demands of the anti-system to avoid the fracture of the pro-independence majority in the Parliament.
Fragmentation
The fragmentation has led to other movements, such as Puigdemont's threat to promote a new unilateral attempt from abroad, through the
Consell per la República
, the para-institutional entity that he presides over, and without taking into account the parties.
Or the temptation of the ANC to begin to forge its own list for the next regional elections after verifying that its predicament, consisting of re-declaring independence and defending it without accepting a new 155, does not have the approval of the Government.
All these signs seem to be causing sustained wear on the independence project.
This would explain why the no to secession already exceeds the yes by 15 points, according to the CEO, since 53.3% declare that they do not want Catalonia to become "an independent state."
The Generalitat survey also asks about what should be the fit of Catalonia in the State, with the current autonomous community status being the most supported, with 34% support, compared to 30% who demand its conversion into its own state and the 19% who defend their permanence in a "federal" Spain.
Minimum backup
Supporters of secession
.
Only 38% of Catalans support secession, according to the latest barometer from the Generalitat's demoscopic body.
It represents the least support of the entire historical series, which began in 2014, two years after the start of the 'procés'.
gap
.
The supporters of the 'no' to the rupture with the rest of Spain represent more than 53% and are already 15 points ahead of the defenders of the 'yes', as reflected in the CEO survey.
Autonomy
.
34% of those surveyed defend, in response to another question, that Catalonia should continue to be an autonomous community.
It is the most supported status, above the 30% that request conversion into their own state and the 19% that support a federal model.
