The star CAC 40 index lost 16.47 points to 6,596.05 points at 9:12 a.m.

On Thursday, it had already closed on a small variation (+0.36%) after a more turbulent start to the week.

"The Paris Stock Exchange remains anchored in a zone of indecision", observes Christopher Dembik, director of macroeconomic research at Saxo Bank.

Investors have been hanging on to developments in the talks between Ukraine and Russia since the start of the week.

"As there is no clearing up on the front of the war in Ukraine, many investors are reluctant to go buying again," continues the analyst.

As the fighting continues, US and Chinese Presidents Joe Biden and Xi Jinping have planned to discuss Moscow's war in Ukraine on Friday.

"The United States made it known on Thursday that China would be exposed to reprisals if it were to + support Russian aggression + against Ukraine", recalls Christian Parisot, of the broker Aurel BGC, pointing out that it is "the clearest warning issued by the United States to China since the beginning of the invasion".

The conflict will have a negative impact on economic growth and investors are worried about the economic outlook.

On the bond market, interest rates on short-term US debt are approaching that of the 10-year maturity.

"This movement in rates would be a harbinger of a coming recession in the United States", cautiously advances John Plassard, Mirabaud's investment specialist, specifying that this risk should not materialize for a year.
