Getting a good rest is one of the most complex challenges in the modern world, and besides the stimuli and the rhythm of life, it has been shown that colors also have an effect on sleep.

In a report published by the Spanish magazine "Lamenteesmaravillosa", writer Sara Gonzalez Juarez says that colors directly affect emotions, neural activation, and even the decisions we make.

The colors of the bedroom, especially the paint of its walls, affect comfort.

How do colors affect your mood?

The color of the walls of the room is among the factors that must be focused on to ensure the quality of sleep.

The time you spend in your room is also related to its color.

When we fall asleep, our moods are inevitably affected by the colors around us.

This means that these surrounding colors have a significant impact on sleep and its quality;

Some colors make us feel calm while others are more exciting, so you should take time to choose the right colors to create the perfect environment for relaxation.

Colors for sleep

Hotels, guesthouses, and hospitals understand how important the surroundings are at bedtime.

A study published in 2016 by a hotel brand showed that:

  • Blue:

    It is considered the most appropriate color to feel comfortable and stimulate sleep, and helps people fall asleep for more hours, as it is the color of the sea and sky and gives a feeling of peace and security.

  • Yellow:

    enhances comfort, especially its light shades (such as pastel colors).

    Although it belongs to the warm colors, yellow creates a sense of balance, harmony and joy.

  • Green color:

    is good for sleep;

    It is directly related to freshness and nature, and has a calming effect.

    In this case, it is also recommended to use its lighter shades.

  • White:

    In addition to being a neutral color, it enhances focus and can be easily combined with any other decoration.

    It is associated with peace, elegance and serenity.

Colors that are not recommended to use

The writer pointed out that there are other colors that negatively affect mood and comfort, including:

  • Violet:

    Since it is the color that stimulates the mind and creativity, it produces a sense of cognitive activation that does not correspond to the calm needed for sleep.

  • Brown:

    Although a color that is directly related to nature and the earth, it creates a sense of monotony and anxiety when used in the bedroom.

  • Dark gray:

    usually associated with asphalt, rain or cement.

    This color produces a feeling of loneliness and sadness and is absolutely incompatible with comfort.

  • Red:

    An aggressive and striking color, visually difficult to avoid, stimulating the mind and pushing to work, so it contrasts with rest, especially when seen in the period before bed.

Color is not the only factor but...

It is true that the color of the walls of the room and the elements that compose it are among the factors that must be taken into account, but they are not the only ones;

Good sleep is associated with other conditions such as the amount of light entering the room, consumption of stimulants such as caffeine and regular physical activity.

If you're having trouble sleeping, you may need to see a sleep medicine specialist.
