The German hospitality industry continues to recover, but is still below the level before the Corona crisis.

As the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced on Friday, sales in the industry, which combines accommodation and gastronomy, rose by 9.7 percent in January compared to December.

Compared to the lockdown month of January 2021, real sales even doubled (plus 107 percent).

However, sales were still below the pre-crisis level in real terms: compared to February 2020, there was a minus of 35 percent, as the statisticians reported.

Hotels and other accommodation companies were able to increase their turnover by 5.4 percent in January compared to December, compared to the previous year there was even an increase of 193 percent - in January 2021 there was an extensive ban on accommodation.

In gastronomy, sales rose by 11.6 percent month-on-month and by 83.9 percent year-on-year.
