The United Nations extends the mission of its mission in Afghanistan for a year under the rule of the Taliban

On Thursday, the UN Security Council approved a resolution extending the United Nations political mission for one year in Afghanistan under the rule of the Taliban, whose regime has not yet been recognized on the international scene.

The resolution, which does not include the word "Taliban", provides for the extension of the mission of the United Nations political mission in Afghanistan, "Manoa" for a period of one year, considering that this matter is "essential" to the establishment of peace in the country.

The resolution received 14 votes, and Russia alone abstained.

The resolution includes the mission's activities in the humanitarian, political and human rights fields, including the rights of women, children and journalists.

"This new mandate for Manoa is essential not only to respond to the immediate humanitarian and economic crisis, but also to achieve our primary goal of establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan," Norwegian Ambassador to the United Nations Mona Gul, who drafted the resolution, told AFP.

"The Council is sending a clear message with this new mission: Manoa has a critical role to play in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan and in supporting the Afghan people at a time when they are facing unprecedented challenges and instability," she added.
