The Armed Forces reiterates the assessment previously made that an armed attack on Sweden cannot be ruled out at present.

However, the threat level against Sweden has not increased since last week's press conference, says the Swedish Armed Forces' Chief of Operations Michael Claesson.

- The security situation we are now in means that an armed attack on Sweden can not be ruled out, but I want to be clear: the Armed Forces is still characterized by an operational calm, we maintain preparedness and ability to meet all types of events.

Russian intentions

The defense also does not see any change in Russia's intentions in Ukraine during the past week.

According to Michael Claesson, the war will affect Swedish security for a long time.

- It is unclear if and when the war will end, but one thing is certain.

We need to adjust to the fact that this is a security policy situation that will be long-lasting.

The Defense Committee is contributing close to three billion

On Wednesday, all parliamentary parties announced that, within the framework of the Defense Committee, they had agreed to increase the allocation to the defense by almost SEK 3 billion.

Michael Claesson stated at the press conference that the new resources will primarily be used to strengthen the endurance of the defense.

- It is about purchasing fuel, supplies, food and medicine, says Michael Claesson.

Lieutenant Colonel Michael Malm from the Total Defense Department, who also attended the press conference, believes that Sweden has a good starting point for defending the country in the event of an invasion.

- We have a pretty good condition to start from.

We see today that we have a great commitment to the total defense, he says.

The Armed Forces has started holding press conferences every Thursday to inform about its assessment of developments in Ukraine and in Sweden's immediate area.
