The owners of the

Atrio

de

Cáceres

restaurant ,

José Polo

and

Toño Pérez

, have closed the file with their insurance company and consider closed the theft of the 45 luxury bottles that disappeared from their cellar on October 27 and that continue without being located.

The investigation is still open by the

Central Unit for Specialized and Violent Crime

of the National Police, but still without positive results, as confirmed by the Government delegate in

Extremadura,

Yolanda García Seco

, who has assured that, five months after the robbery , "there is no news" about it.

Meanwhile, the Cáceres restaurant, with two

Michelin stars and three

Repsol

suns

, and with one of the most important wine cellars in the world, has resolved the file with its insurance company through the mediation of the company

Sánchez Castañón SL

of

Zafra

(

Badajoz

), a member of the

Cojebro

business group .

As published by EL MUNDO, the global insurance established by the Atrio bosses, which also included the contents of the

Relais&Chateaux hotel

, rises to 17 million euros, but there was no specific amount set by the winery.

"If we manage to collect it, we will invest it in wine again," said José Polo after the robbery.

The missing bottles could be valued at two million euros.

After closing the insurance file, the desire of the owners of Atrio is "to continue working with the same enthusiasm and enthusiasm" that they have shown for three decades, when they opened their first restaurant in the capital of Cáceres.

In this line, José Polo and Toño Pérez have indicated the importance, in circumstances such as the one experienced, "of delegating the protection of their risks to professionals in the insurance sector, as in this case they have been doing it since its inception".

Given this situation of ignorance of any clue of the possible perpetrators of the theft and the whereabouts of the bottles -among them the historic

Chateau d'Yquem 1806

- "they consider closed an issue that has marked their lives and their professional work, and they look to the future with optimism and enthusiasm, although current events worldwide are not a reflection of these circumstances", they assured, in addition to thanking all the people who have been interested in this fact.

José Polo declared this Thursday to this newspaper that, as he thought from the first day that the bottles disappeared, "I don't think they will be found" because it was a "too clean" robbery, with a 'white glove', without leaving any clues, and especially because "I am convinced that it was a robbery by order" and, he warns, "normally they are caught when they are going to proceed to sell the bottles".

The robbery

It should be remembered that the Atrio de Cáceres hotel-restaurant suffered a robbery five months ago in its cellar, from which 45 bottles of wine were taken - 38 from

Romanée Conti

and seven from

Château d'Yquem

- one of them from 1806, acquired in a bid in

London

in the year 2000 and valued at around 310,000 euros.

"I hope at least this one appears", Polo has wished.

The events occurred in the early hours of October 26 to 27 when a couple who were staying at the hotel asked for something to eat around one in the morning and the person in charge of reception, with the aim of assisting them, went to the kitchen for if he could provide them with something quick to 'snack'.

At no time did they raise any suspicion.

The woman, approximately 40 years old, with a previous room reservation, arrived at the hotel first.

She was well dressed and only carried a backpack among her belongings.

She showed a Swiss passport as identification.

She spoke at all times, as her companion who would later join the dinner, in English.

They paid the bill immediately after dinner and were always extremely friendly and very polite, and also asked to visit the cellar,

security cameras

With this, they managed to separate the receptionist from the viewing of the cameras, a moment they took advantage of to go down to the warehouse and perpetrate the robbery.

To do this, they used wigs to avoid being recognized and studied the position of the security cameras of the hotel complex itself.

Afterwards, they left the hotel on foot around five in the morning and, since then, nothing has transpired about the thieves and the loot.

Nor did the security cameras in the pedestrian streets of the historic center of Cáceres, where the hotel is located, record images.

The wine cellar of the Atrio hotel restaurant, located in the

Plaza de San Mateo

de Cáceres, is considered the best in

Spain

and one of the best in

Europe

.

On its shelves there are 3,400 references in wines from all over the world.

After the theft, José Polo assured that, although he could not quantify the price of the loot, it is of "high economic value" but, above all, "sentimental", since many of the bottles cannot be replaced because they are limited series and it is difficult to quantify them in the market.
