It's the end of a year of suspense for the Zulu people.

After the death of King Goodwill Zwelithin in March 2021, the coronation is approaching for Prince Misuzulu.

Part of the family challenged in court his accession to the throne announced by the queen.

The procedures are now exhausted, and the South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has just given his blessing.

Prince Misuzulu

, 47, will be able to rule over 11 million Zulus.

Recognition by President Ramaphosa comes two weeks after a court victory.

The Pietermaritzburg court had rejected the requests of part of the family who wanted to suspend the coronation.

Cyril Ramaphosa did not take this decision lightly.

He consulted his Minister for Traditional Affairs and the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Province.

Because if the Zulu king has no executive power, he has political influence in the second largest province of South Africa.

Prince Misuzulu was supported by the Zulu Inkhata Party (IFP), which recalls that “

the monarchy unites the Zulu nation, provides stability and protects the heritage of the kingdom

 ”.

Inheritance is mainly land, 30% of the province is managed by a royal society which levies a tax.

This will be one of the responsibilities of the future sovereign after his coronation, the date of which has not yet been fixed.
