• The situation in the TERs in Hauts-de-France had become alarming in October 2021.

  • So much so that the region had suspended its monthly payments to the rail carrier.

  • Four months later, the service tends to normalize and the region has resumed the payment of its bills.

A near return to normal.

In Hauts-de-France, the small daily annoyances suffered by users of regional trains (TER) are not new.

Nevertheless, the situation had become particularly alarming at the end of last year, so much so that the principal, the regional council, had suspended, since December, the payment of the monthly drafts due to the SNCF.

Four months later, the two parties agree that "constant progress" has resulted in offering users a TER service "close to the objectives".

We have to believe that attacking the portfolio pays off, at least in this case.

The Hauts-de-France region, tired of a largely degraded TER service, had suspended the payment of monthly drafts of 44 million euros since last December.

The resumption of payments was conditional on a standardization of the offer, in other words improving the regularity of trains, and drastically reducing cancellations and under-sizing.

The SNCF then had no choice but to initiate an emergency recovery plan.

Progress to be continued and sustained

This famous plan took time to bear its first fruits.

But, at a meeting between the two parties on Wednesday, the carrier showed encouraging results.

Moreover, since January 28, the SNCF has been offering “a complete recovery of the offer”, lightened in recent months to deal with the crisis.

Satisfied but cautious, the Region has decided to resume monthly payments to the carrier while ensuring that the efforts undertaken continue.

For its part, the SNCF has promised several things to its customers.

Inform passengers better and more quickly in the event of train cancellations.

Continue the recruitment of agents up to 280 positions in 2022. And offer its TER subscribers "compensation up to one month".

For daily users of regional trains, the month of April will be free, and it's not a fish.
