The alleged turning point is just hot air.

Actually, it would have been worth a celebration of its own to listen to the Ukrainian President from the capital, which was threatened by Russian invading troops.

Because Selenskyj speaks, as German politicians never tire of emphasizing, as a European.

He also speaks as a victim of a breach in civilization.

And you have to be thankful for every moment that a Ukrainian, be it the president or a pregnant woman in no man's land, lives on and can bear witness.

But for the Bundestag Presidium, this speech was just one of many items on the agenda.

So Bundestag Vice President Katrin Göring-Eckardt went on with the agenda: birthday greetings and later a reminder to wear the mask correctly.

It is this type and form that shows that something has changed in Germany so far, at best in terms of rhetoric of concern.

In any case, the political leadership is still deep in the old mode of innocence.

While thousands of compatriots are actively helping refugees, and some even set out for the war zone, the parliament lacks any sense of the time, the danger and the importance of the moment.

This does not bode well for the promises of billions made without further ado.

Certainly, one has experience in subsidizing and cushioning, that will work.

But military capability and security of supply will not arise in such a bubble.

Nobody wants to hear gunshots.

But in Ukraine they fall.

A living target of Putin's war of aggression appeared in parliament.

One wonders with concern: if you don't hear that shot, what do you hear anyway?
