Only three candidates responded: the communist Fabien Roussel, the ecologist Yannick Jadot and therefore the socialist Hidalgo, while the LR candidate Valérie Pécresse defected the night before.

The three candidates present pleaded in favor of the return of a “full exercise” Ministry of Sports, and not attached to the Ministry of National Education as currently, and an increase in the budget dedicated to sport.

Fabien Roussel proposed in particular for his part the construction of 1,000 swimming pools and 1,000 sports complexes.

For his part, the candidate Jadot worried about "the threat of the privatization of major sports competitions" citing the Super League project in European football, defended in particular by Juventus Turin and Real Madrid.

Furthermore, he added, "we have a problem when the values ​​of sport and major sporting competitions are instrumentalized for political ends", he said, referring to the recent Beijing Olympics and the the future FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the end of 2022.
