Magnetic resonance imaging revealed that the best three-point shooter in history suffered a sprain, with no structural damage like a broken bone.

A relief on the side of the Warriors (3rd in the West) for whom "Curry avoided a serious injury", sources close to the club told ESPN.

This diagnosis "suggests that he will be able to return for the start of the playoffs in mid-April".

However, Curry "is expected to go to specialists soon for further evaluation" of his injury, ESPN adds.

The 34-year-old point guard was injured in Wednesday's game against the Boston Celtics in the second quarter.

Curry fell to the ground, rammed by Marcus Smart as the pair battled for a loose ball.

"I have a lot of respect for Marcus, he's a great player and competitor (...) but it was a dangerous move and I let him know," Golden State coach Steve Kerr said.

The loss of Curry, who averages 25.5 points, is a blow to the Warriors.

It comes two days after the reformation of the famous "Big 3" - Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green - which had led them to three NBA championship rings (2015, 2017, 2018).

This trio had not played together since June 2019, exactly 1,005 days due to the multiple injuries contracted by the three players.

Thompson was sidelined for two and a half years and when he finally returned in January, Green was nursing a sore back, only making his comeback in the win over Washington.
