An urgent foreign ministers' meeting of the G7 = seven major countries was held on the night of the 17th over the situation in Ukraine, and it was agreed to set up a support group, saying that neighboring Moldova, which is accepting refugees, is also in a difficult situation.

The Government of Japan is also urgently improving the system for accepting refugees.

Regarding the situation in Ukraine, the G7 = seven major countries held an urgent foreign ministers' meeting online on the night of the 17th of Japan time, and Foreign Minister Hayashi also attended.

At the meeting, the G7 reaffirmed that it would continue to increase pressure on Russia, which continues its military invasion, and said that neighboring countries accepting refugees from Ukraine also faced difficulties and that neighboring Moldova was in a particularly difficult situation. We agreed to set up a support group at the center.

Based on this, the Government of Japan has decided to strengthen support for Ukraine and neighboring countries, and intends to deliver supplies such as food and medical supplies while taking into account local needs.

In addition, with the intention of promoting the acceptance of refugees in Japan, we are planning to hold the first meeting of the liaison and coordination meeting of the relevant ministers under Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno on the 18th to start full-scale examination.

From a humanitarian point of view, the government accepts refugees who have no relatives or acquaintances in the country, and grants those who wish to have a status of residence that allows them to work and stay for one year. We are urgently planning to improve the acceptance system, including securing the above.
